Vivre Sa Vie - Demo

Vivre Sa Vie is a Swedish emoviolence outfit, consisting of Wiljami, Johan, Tobias and Jacob. Their approach of punk music is passionate and very personal, transporting a strong and sincere message about ‘living and coming out as a transgender person…’ and their ‘personal angst that comes from not living by norms.’ The fourpiece from Stockholm absolutely convinces with heartfelt lyrics and their intense compositions. Time will tell if they could become something like a screamo version of Against Me. However, and this might be the most important thing, their music is going to help gender-non-conforming people within the punk community through their struggles in everyday life.

“I've got nothing left from the war. I stand infront of the mirror. She stares me right in the eyes. War against yourself. A battlefield. On your torso. Gunmen down your neck.”

Drei Affen - Drei Affen

A few months back we introduced you Drei Affen from Torrelavega, Spain. Following their demo, the emoviolence threepiece recently released their debut EP. This highly recommendable release contains six energetic tracks and other than Elsa and Eloy’s other project OsoLuna, the band pursues a more chaotic and skramzier approach for those tracks. Compared to the demo, you now get a well-produced Extended Play with decent sound quality and beautiful cover artwork. After its digital release, the selftitled EP will also be available on tape via Middleman Records as well as on vinyl. Limited to 500 copies the 12 inch record will be published by a potpourri of fantastic labels, indluding Dingleberry Records, Krimskramz, Pure Hearth Records, Rubaiyat Records and Zegema Beach.

“Intento atravesar los muros con la rabia de un tornado, por los que sufren sin voz grito, lloro, sufro, amo.”

Det är därför vi bygger städer / Coma Regalia - Split

One song each band, this is one of those splits which will hardly find its way on my turntable. I feel like, it is way too tedious to turn the record over and over again, though it’s nice to have it on my record shelf. The song contributed by Stockholm’s Det är därför vi bygger städer contains a strong amount of clean vocals, switching from mellow to angry - where the song hits its climax - and the other way around. An Apology by Coma Regalia, which can be found on the other side of the split, also includes clean vocals and convinces with a nice melody. Grab the record from Middle Man Records, Ödebygd Records, Through Love Records, Miss The Stars Records, Friendly Otter, Zegema Beach Records, Time As A Colour or Samegrey Records.

Икар - \\\\\\

Let's end this episode with an appropriate release: High-pitched vocals, roaring guitars and a fair doze of chaos - Икар from Minsk, Belarus created a six song collection, which easily could be termed as close to perfection. Combining all makings of a fantastic screamo record, the EP starts with the furious Рождение трагедий (The birth of tragedy). An eclectic, well composed song, full of finesse and one of the most brilliant song endings I’ve heard in a while. Definitely a must listen for everyone who’s into screamo music.

“Как опадает сухая листва, устилаясь холмами повсюду, так опадем когда-то и мы, наблюдая за смертью друг друга.”

Piri Reis / Coma Regalia - Split

When life hands you another Piri Reis release, everything is alright. The Split with Coma Regalia is the follow-up of their demo. Contributing four songs, including two well-known tracks of their debut, the band from Malaysia came up to expectations. Both of the tunes are intense and sound brilliant, underlining the band’s status of Asia’s most exciting screamo project these days. Representing the counterpart of this fantastic collaboration, Coma Regalia adds seven intense tracks to the record. As usual, their sound is oriented towards emotional music in the vein of 90s screamo. The combination of the two sides of the split results in an exciting and classical screamo record. I’m absolutely psyched about this release. The split will be released on 10 inch vinyl via Middle Man Records, Miss The Stars Records and Framecode.

fun fact: Piri Reis features ex members of Quantis, the band Coma Regalia did their first split with.

Ikiru – S/T EP

During this year’s Fluff Fest, I asked a bunch of folks about their favorite live performance of the festival. Quite often the answer was Ikiru. Back home, the only thing I could find was a noisy live recording on coffee breath records and some videos, including their set of the festival. And man, the people got right, their show was just incredible. A few months later, they finally released their first proper musical output on bandcamp. The band from Krupka, Czech Republic, plays screamo, where instruments perfectly harmonize with stirring vocals. Both combined to a mighty and passionate mix of pure joy. Do yourself a favor and check them out if you don’t know them already.

Shirokuma – Light Dies / Colours Fade

Released by Dog Knight Productions, Light Dies / Colours Fade follows Shirokuma’s grandiose full-length debut. For me, the centerpiece of this beautiful five song-collection is the opening track called Empty Squares And Thinner Lines. The song, which was pre-released on the bandcamp page of the Swedish screamo collective, lasts six epochal minutes, fascinating with every single note. Attached quite perfectly, the rest of the songs build a superior unit full of dreamy post-rock melodies and heart-wrenching screams. This is how modern screamo should sound like.

“Night time, city lights. Staring back, empty eyes. Between empty squares and thinner lines."

rûth – Demo

rûth is a freshly hatched three-headed screamo hydra from Singapore. And, oh well, growing up in a fertile milieu with bands like Yumi, Sjanse, Daily Ritual, Calvaire or Paris In The Making surely helps finding a sound evoking the feelings you get from listening to late 90’s and early 2000’s screamo. The guitars have this distinct strumming sound to them, where I find the German word “schrammelig” quite fitting as a description. The three songs include everything you can wish for in screamo music – especially the wonderfully varying harmonies. The playtime never exceeds three and a half minutes, leaving you with a healthy craving for more.

Kapytaen - Demo 2015

With this Demo, Kapytaen are starting over. While their first recordings were quite provisionally, the two new songs of the likeable band from Würzburg are well produced. But, more importantly: their sound has changed. The four-headed crust monster bares its teeth, sounding even more aggressive than ever before. Both tracks on the Demo are full of wicked screams, which are wrapped in massive guitar walls and insane drumming. No Feelings, Meddl Leude!

“Ever since I can remember, I was haunted by the voices inside telling me that I was born a letdown, raised as a fuckup, an ever growing disgrace, shaping my perception, burning all illusions of relief.”

Heiße - leverage of decomposition

Heiße is Moore, Dunn, Nick and Liam. Formally known as Weak, the screamo outfit from Halifax delivers six new tracks. Most of the time “leverage of decomposition” sounds fairly straightforward, yet there are a few slower, more melodic parts. However, the band from Canada is able to create a beautiful blend, making use of different stylistic devices, letting no room for boredom. They are definitely a band to watch out for.

Lord Snow – Winterhold

Currently touring Europe, Lord Snow from Chicago, Illinois, are probably one of the greatest bands in our beloved genre. Their recently published Extended Play called “Winterhold”, which is already their fifth release, includes six fast songs. Every single one of them sounds just perfect. The violent and hysteric screams of Niko and Steph are supported by a shredding guitar, together creating the familiar and chaotic sound of the band. This is emoviolence at its best! Make sure to check out the EP and if you have the chance, also try to catch them at one of their shows.

Kaoru Nagisa / Coma Regalia – Split

Released by Middle Man Records and time as a color, the collaboration between Kaoru Nagisa and Coma Regalia accommodates one song each band. Both songs sound just great. At the latest, this split won me over as my attention was drawn to the lyrics of “MQWC”. In respect of the legalization of same sex marriage in the States, the song by Coma Regalia could be seen as a hymn, which demands beyond this important, legally step, to accept the human being as its beautiful, individual self, regardless of gender or other categories, settled by the society.

“When will we learn to respect one another regardless of sex or who we have it with and what we do or do not identify as we can be who we are and we can fuck who we want? We will be who we are. We will love who we want.”

Miriel Fëanor – Oceandrops EP

Miriel Fëanor are from Nitra, Slovakia. The screamo fourpiece was founded back in 2014 and comes up with one of the first releases this year. Oceandrops is their debut Extended Play and includes six tracks, containing some decent post-rock sound combined with hints of screamo. This one can be the perfect soundtrack for a long and dark winter.

Eros + Massacre/Coma Regalia split 8"

While Coma Regalia continuously producing split after split, this is only the second album of Madrids Eros + Massacre. Also released in the very beginning of 2015 the collaboration between both bands is a classy screamo split record. There will be a European release next month but if you don’t want to wait, you already can preorder the split via Indiana based label Middle-Man records.

Batièn - Frammenti del mio flusso che insieme sono un puzzle, divisi i continenti"

Batièn is a four-headed screamo collective from Bologna, Italy. They are probably the best band from Italy since Ojne conquered the stages. Their debut EP ”Frammenti del mio flusso che insieme sono un puzzle, divisi i continenti” won me over at the first listen. The Sound of the EP is passionate and makes me curious about what might come next. This is definitely an EP which would have made it into my end-of-the-year-list if I had discovered them earlier. Highly recommended.

Eaglehaslanded – rec"

The intro of the first song takes up the 8bit sound of “Bringing the pizza home“. Because of the artwork of the 2 song EP showing a floppy disc in the style of 80s video games, I thought the whole EP would take the same line as the 8 bit album. But, far from it! After 16 seconds the familiar Eaglehaslanded-sound bursts through. And this is exactly where the second song picks up. Those two tracks are hysteric, violent and so passionate.

“such a lovely family house,
let"s burn it to the ground.
leaving the ashes on our burnt bodies.
we only know about suffering.
the nightmare goes on and on.“

To be continued... FUCK, yes please!
