What a fabulous lineup on this collaborative release. Tokyo’s ilill and 5000 team up with rûth and istilah from Singapore. Since it’s impossible to dwell on every single track on the split, I’m going to keep things short. Asian screamo rules the game with its fresh and exciting bands. All those amazing projects, which are featured on the split CD were formed quite recently and cover the whole sound palette from violent and chaotic to melodic and groovy - what could your emo heart desire more? The liaison between those four bands is home of nine incredible songs, each and everyone of them is fun listening to, sending you to a state of joy and ecstasy.

What’s Left of the Sun - Lifeline

Thanks to Miss the Stars I discovered this premium post-hardcore inspired, emo / screamo band from Sweden. I was totally blown away after I had checked their song, the prince, which was streamed on Alex’ blog. The sound of the song is super melodic and features some really great background vocals, which are perfectly combined with the screamed ones. The EP contains just one further track, which sucks a lot because both songs leave you wanting for more. As the band just returned back home from their tour through Poland, we absolutely recommend you to give them a listen. You won’t regret it.

„Blood ties, ties our floods together. But I am, alone out at sea Abandoned by my shattered family. Crashing like waves, all over me.“

Cady - Isle Of Flowers

There’s a new wave of amazing emoviolence bands from the UK coming in. Cady is one of those. Their latest musical output is called ‚Isle Of Flowers‘ and contains four heavy tracks, full of darkness and dense atmosphere. Every single note seems to sound just right, as those soundscapes excels thanks to its furious vocals and wild blast beating drums. The Extended Play, which is strongly recommendable for fans of Cassus, Scared of Everything and Dawn Ray’d, is co-released by Boslevan Records, Cave Of Roses and Wolf Town DIY. It’s screamo as good as it gets combined with a slight hint of metal.

„Throat so lacerated, this damn chest croaks. Heaving patterns like lungs are bleached soaked. Move into the endless, simmering light. ‚I'm never coming back’ - ‚I am Dock Ellis. And I will miss you’."

Solanas - What’s Left To Leave Behind

Solanas are from the UK and were founded back in 2013. The screamo collective from Newcastle consists of Ollie, Eliott and Stef who also is part of Scared Of Everything and replaced the band’s original bassist, Tim, in 2014. Already released in late April, What’s Left To Leave Behind is already their sixths release and features five tracks in total. The music on it can be described as a sweet blend of emo, screamo and post-hardcore, which is wrapped in a sonic garb full of dreamy guitar riffs. Solans definitely set themselves off from the common screamo sound, which is not the worst thing you can say about a band. Thumbs up! Also check out the band’s LP, 'The Distance Within Our Bodies', which was released on vinyl recently.

„I’ll keep my tired eyes closed and hope to dream of love but I’m sleeping less each night and my heart can barely beat, my words have failed, my tongue and my hands have failed my nerves…"

Careless / Det är därför vi bygger städer / sans visage – 3-way-split

This Swedish-Japanese-cooperation rules hard. Two songs each band, the split contains six songs in total and soon it will be released as a 12’’ record via Through Love Records (GER), Samegrey Records (UKR) and Kakusan Records (NOR). While sans visage from Tokyo provides us with their classical interpretation of screamo, Careless and Det ör därför vi bygger städer adding some post-rockish guitar sounds to the sample board. Which songs you will like best might be a matter of taste, but for me the two songs of Det är darför vi bygger städer are truly outstanding, topping off the split in the best way possible.

“Closure, it's a feeling of happiness, it won't find me you won't find me.”

Belle Indifference – Ryan Ghosting

Here’s an old one from last year. Released in the end of 2015, the debut EP by Belle Indifference from Madrid is a gem for every amateur of emoviolence. The seven songs EP feature every attribute you could expect from a record, tagged with this genre. The wild sound of the threepiece from Madrid is discordant and arhythmic. Just a few slower sections interrupt the aroused chaos, giving you little time to breath. Ryan Ghosting is highly recommendable; don’t fail to give it a listen. ‘This is your most likable song ever. People will love it.’

“Same teeth, same lips, same laughter, what am I doing myself? We are tied into a spiral of identical tastes, my curiosity rotates in one direction, I see your face and that's only cat-eye-glasses. Do I love people or do I love patterns?”

letters to catalonia / ilill – split

+ Skeletal Lightning

Another split, another band from Japan. A few months ago we introduced you ilill from Tokyo. For their second release they teamed up with San Diego’s letters to catalonia. Both bands contribute three tracks to the split, which sound quite contrary. Compared to the violent, straight-forward sound of the threepiece from California, ilill’s approach is more playful, containing borrowings of 90s emo. Yet, there’s no doubt that this collaboration between those bands works perfectly well. I instantly ordered the split-tape from Skeletal Lightning and so should you since it is limited to 100 pieces.

“I am broken just like you. Let’s get together. We might get through. Not for forever but just for now. I need you with me to not go down in a mountain of cheap cigarettes and wine. Just be here with and kill some time.”

Weak Ties – Weak Ties

Weak Ties is a Powerviolence outfit from Bielefeld, Germany. The fourpiece recorded eleven songs, each faster and more powerful than the foregone track and put them out as a selftitled EP. The roots of the band definitely lie in classical Hardcore Punk, as their brute sound features some nice D-Beat sections. Their vocals are pissed and so are the lyrics. Actually not that kind of stuff we are featuring on this blog, but Weak Ties deserved it. Brett!

“Devoted to all this, which creates this fucking sea of shit. Restrained smiles. Vaccined brains. Running on knives.”

Astrid Lindgren – Kryjówka

Good things come to those who wait. Astrid Lindgren from Poznan gave themselves three years to release new musical output. Kryjówka will be on their highly anticipated record, which will be released by Pasażer in this year’s fall. I’m quite excited for this release to come out, as this striking screamo song was made to be listened on rotation. Astrid Lindgren is Szcepan, Goblin, Bialy, Hoody and China and this tune is a banger! Bardzo dobrze, boys!

You Take The Bus When You're Dead – Sure!

Calgary currently seems to be a vibrant place where screamo bands are shooting up like Mushrooms. One of those amazing bands is You Take The Bus When You’re Dead. Recently released, the debut EP of the Canadian threepiece contains three emotive songs, full of heartbreaking lyrics. Indeed those words sometimes sound quite cliché, but let’s be honest: from time to time, we all love to indulge in heartache and melancholy. This EP is worth checking out.

“I don’t know where you are, I just want you to know I miss you. Nothing feels worse than when you’re gone.”

SURHYSA - Moloch & Freigehege

Already shared the stage with bands like Disembarked, The Caulfield Cult and Dawn Ray'd, Moloch & Freigehege is the first, yet only published track of Surhysa. The atmospheric sound of the foursome from Regensburg could be described as darkened screamo combined with hints of crust, a blend that works perfectly well. It’s a pity they don’t have bandcamp yet, but we recommend you to watch the live take of their song. On that note:

„Willkommen im Moloch. Willkommen im Freigehege.“

Ilill – wait

Wait by Ilill is another amazing song that will be part of a proper release. It will be the first track of the upcoming demo of the emoviolence collective from Tokyo. Even if the first recording is still very raw, the emotions are transported well and I guess this is the most important thing. For us, it will be absolutely interesting to follow this project consisting of young and talented musicians. You can download the song on the group’s bandcamp page for free. There also might be a tape release in the future.
